Update to Technical Supplement for Exterior Cladding from James Hardie

The September 2020 supplement outlines the use of Structnail® Gripshank™ SuperSharpy™ fasteners with selected James Hardie™ products as an alternative fixing method to screws for steel framing. Nailing can reduce installation time due to the elimination of surface preparation steps, such as countersinking and patching screw holes.

All nails are not created equal, so make sure you use structural pins like our Structnail Gripshank™ pins to connect any products to steel frame buildings. The applications could be cladding, thermal battens, flooring, roof battens, bracing sheets, plated lintels and more. Below is brand "X" out of Korea which claims to works on steel frames. Pull-out capacity and coating protection was reviewed by 3rd party with results substandard and not fit for purpose. Our 38mm Gripshank™ nails have been selected for this new 64 residential project for fixing INEX>EXPRESS directly to metal battens on timber frames. While other nails were trailed, our Gripshank™ nails were the only ones able to satisfy the client and installation team on both the superior finish and structural requirements.
The project brief from the client was about installing an architectural cladding system in a manner that structurally and aesthetically complies AND optimise the build programme. We are looking forward to the next project by the client.
